In this piece of work i can see nine different types of images that are meant to represent a hotel room in the 1900s in the top left one i can see a plain white object which to me looks like a hot water bottle inside of an open suit case. In the middle image I can see what looks to be two single beds with two towels folded in top of them. This could also be showing what a kids room looks like in a holiday hotel in the late 1900s. moreover, in the top right hand photo I can see a set of slippers layed out in a row one of them leaning more towards the foot of what look to be a bed. Another one of the photos that caught my eye whiles I looking at this piece of work was the second left hand photo. In this photo i can see a book that is sitting on top of a dresser. This book could be the bible which could mean that the family staying in this hotel could be religious. In the Middle photo on the second row i can see what looks to be just a plain bed this image wasn't very full of thing like the rest of hem but I still liked how simple this one is. Moreover in the second row on the right hand side is the sixth image. In this image I can see what look to be an image of a bathroom in a hotel of the 1900s you can see all of the soaps and products the owners use and the bar that goes along the side of the bath so they can hang their towels on them. In the bottom left photo I can see what looks to be a very messy bathroom this could be a photo taken before the cleaners of the hotel can and cleaned it. In the second to last photo i can see and umbrella leaning against a bed with a bag on top. This could show me that the people that are staying there are getting ready to leave. Finally, In the last photo I can see half a bed with what looks to be some sort of card half hidden in the covers.
I believe that Sophie Calle took these photos was by being there herself at that time. This is because at the bottom of her work it says''room 47 1981'' this tells me that she could have been staying at that hotel at that time and taken all of these photos whiles she was there. I also realised that the photos where taken in black and whit this could tell me that the photos where probably taken in an old camera this is also because the texture and graphics in this photo are not that good where as if they where taken on a modern camera the graphics would be better and it would be more clear. Another reason why I think that she took this photo in black and white was because she wanted it to be different. For example, if the photos where taken in colour the photos would just look like your everyday room and you wouldn't think that it was meant to be of a hotel room in in the late 1900s.I also realised that in each photo the framing was a bit different. For example, in the first photo she place the suit case and hot water bottle in the middle but in the bottom middle photo the umbrella is tilted to the left of the photo rather than being right in the middle. If I was taking these photos i would show more of the room this is because Sophie mostly just took photos of the bed area there was only five photos that where not framed in the bed area.
These pictures make me feel very amazed this is because i think that its cool to see how the hotel rooms used to look like and how they look now. It really shows you how the world has changed and improved over time. However these photos also make me feel a bit freaked out this is because the photos are like a photo in time it's kind of like a ghost of the past in a way. My most favvourite photo would have to be the one in the second row on the right hand side. This is because i like like how it shows what the storage looks like and the bathrooms as well I also like how there are a number of things that have a flower print. This is because I feel like it bings a of security and peace ace to to the room. This is because flowers bring a feeling that you a safe and happiness. If i could talk to the artist I would ask them where they went to take these photos.
It helps me understand her because now i know that she got a degree for art and history and she wanted to mix those two together and become a photographer that focuses on taking photos on history.when she took these photos she wanted to show what life was like in a hotel in the late 1900s. In 1987 she then set out to right an introduction foe her book on her photography journey.
This photo relates to the theme ritual as it gives of that feeling that a ghost of the past is there watching you as you look at them like in the top right one it looks like a place where a ritual is made.
In this assessment we had to take a range of 30 photographs inspired by the artist that we chose. For me I had to take photos of objects in black and white this is because I chose the piece of work that was about a hotel in the late 1900s. My photos didn't come out as black and white in the editing process of my website but do come up as black and white when you publish it. my least favourite photo would have to be the bottom right one this is because its a bit boring and too simple for my liking. However,I also kind of like it because to me it's quite different to the work that I usually do.My most favourite one would have to be the bottom middle one. This is because in because the black and white it makes it look like a wonderland in a way. I also really like the framing of the photo because all of the flowers are in the the middle of the photo and how in the background of the photo is kind of in the middle byt also sort of to the side.
